9th Colombian Film Festival New York sponsored by Aguardiente Cristal USA

From April 28th to May 1st, Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas at Chelsea hosted the 9th Colombian Film Festival New York. In the span of these three days, more than 20 Colombian films and short films were screened to an eager audience. Sponsored by Aguardiente Cristal, the event  entertained attendees with samples of guaro during the red carpets and breaks between films.

The official selections of the Festival were made by well-known film industry professionals in several genres. The opening event received Colombian and international visitors who had the chance to enjoy some Aguardiente Cristal, while they met with the directors, producers and actors of the different films.

The event presented a great opportunity to showcase Colombian values and traditions in the United States, translating to increased brand awareness in this important market. Visitors not only were able to see outstanding movies, but they also experienced Colombia’s culture and flavors in New York City.

Colombian Film Festival special screening

During the 9th Colombian Festival New York, Forgotten We’ll Be (El Olvido que Seremos), a film based on the book of the same name, had a special screening. This movie portrays the life of a good man, Héctor Abad Gómez, a prominent doctor and human rights activist in the violent Medellin of the 70s.

The story follows the life of Doctor Gómez, a family man worried not only for his own children, but for those of the underprivileged classes as well. Héctor devoted himself to the social and political causes of the time, but Medellin’s intolerant society harassed him until he was finally silenced.

It’s an intimate story seen through the eyes of his only male son, Héctor Abad Faciolince, one of the most outstanding writers in contemporary Colombia.

This is just one example of the many intense and brave stories behind the selection of 2022 films shown at the festival. The sponsorship of Aguardiente Cristal USA reinforced the commitment of the brand to promote Colombia’s cultural enrichment and to position itself in the US market as an icon of this country’s traditions.
